These Magnolia Mini Sessions are a hit every year!
Milwaukee Family Photographer Summer 2022
Happy March! It’s getting so close to spring and summer… and I can’t wait! Summer is the perfect time for family photos.
Update your family photos when the weather is warm and beautiful! The earlier you get on my calendar the better. We all know how fast our summer schedules fill up. Between sports, activities and vacations, summer can fly by fast!
Have you ever looked back a year ago and thought, wow the kids were SO little! Time really does fly by. If you keep putting off family photos waiting to get to your perfect weight or once this event is checked off….it won’t get scheduled. You’ll miss out capturing those moments when your kids were ‘little’. Before you know it, they will be out of the stage you remember from ‘last year.’
You won’t regret getting in those pictures with your babies! Your kids won’t remember how you felt about yourself, but they will love seeing you in the pictures with them.
What are you waiting for?!
Milwaukee Family Photography 2022
Now is the time to start thinking about spring and summer sessions! My calendar is filling up fast.
Where do sessions take place?
Sessions take place at parks around the Milwaukee and Lake Country areas. Mini Sessions are predetermined locations sent out about a week before your session. Lifestyle Sessions, I will work with you to see what vibe you are going for. We will then decide on a perfect location for you and your family!
What types of sessions do you offer for families?
Lifestyle and Mini Sessions. Mini Sessions are 20 minutes in length scheduled back to back. These are scheduled seasonally. Lifestyle Sessions are up to 1 hour in length. More information on my sessions can be found here!
When do sessions take place?
1-2 hours before sunset! That’s the best light…I promise pushing the bedtime back will be worth it. :)
Milwaukee Newborn Lifestyle Photographer 2022
Congratulations! Those first few days at home can be a blur. You won’t regret having newborn photos done, but you will regret not having them done! Babies change so much in the first year.
When is the best time for newborn photos?
Within the first 5-14 days. There is some leeway… as my style is lifestyle newborn.
Who’s included?
Immediate family members are included in your newborn session!
How soon should I reach out?
The sooner, the better! Grab your spot on my calendar before it fills up!
Newborn Lifestyle Session in the studio
Congratulations! You want to schedule a newborn session, but are unsure if you want to have it in your home. Katie Bingen Photography offers Newborn Lifestyle Sessions in their all white, modern Waukesha Studio.
Newborn Lifestyle Sessions take place within the 5-14 day window. If it happens to go slightly outside the window, it’s no big deal. The earlier you reach out to schedule with me, the better!
What should you bring to your session in the studio?
I recommend a favorite outfit(s), swaddle(s), headband(s) and a white onesie. One advantage of the studio is you don’t have to clean up your house for your session!
What can I expect during the session?
A relaxed environment. These sessions are led by the baby. If your baby needs to eat, have a diaper change, be soothed, it is no big deal. Have toddlers? If they need a break, we will switch it up and focus on mom and baby. We will go with the flow. I have children of my own, so I get it! :)

How to prepare for your in home Newborn Session
Congratulations! You’re expecting and have a newborn session scheduled for in your home. What happens next?
First off, plan your outfits around you. You want to feel comfortable and confident. Stick to neutral colors and build a color pallet off of your outfit. Don’t match, but coordinate colors. I offer style and select for all my clients to help in planning their outfits. As always, reach out for advice! I’m happy to guide you in the right direction.
Secondly, prepare your home. I typically shoot in the living room, master bedroom and nursery. Sometimes, I’ll use the kitchen too! Clean and declutter these rooms ahead of your session. I’ll be looking for the most natural light, so if there is another room in your house we could use, great!
This goes hand in hand, but the time of day is important when doing a photoshoot in your home. Things to think about… when does my home get the best natural light? I default to late morning for in home sessions as that usually gives the best natural light in the house. (Late morning also tends to work for older siblings that still take naps in the early afternoon.)
Relax. I’ll be coming in the comfort of your own home to capture those first few moments with your new baby. I’ll get a few of those everyone looking at the camera, but my favorite to capture are those in between moments. You gazing at your newborn, how tiny they are in your arms or how suddenly you toddler doesn’t look so little anymore. The session will be led by your baby (or toddler). If we need to take breaks for eating, soothing, tantrums or diaper changes… that is okay! I’m a mom of 3 and get it. :)
Lastly, if you have pets….they will be in your photos. That is all. Can’t wait to meet you and your family!

Three must have photos for moms!
Three must have photos for moms!
A picture with all of your kids together!
…the whole family!
…and most importantly, YOU mama. I can remember the first time my good friend @vanessawyler and I swapped some pictures of just us and our kids. It was the first time I essentially got professional pictures taken. I went home and edited those photos of me and my babies and almost cried. (happy tears!!) It’s so important to get in the frame with your littles. Not only for them, but you will be surprised how much you need this too.
For the first time ever, I am offering Motherhood Petite Sessions in my Waukesha Studio. You can book here. Go to my instagram for a special deal!
Three reasons YOU should be in photos with your kids!
Have you ever put off family photos because you didn’t want to be in the photos?! Here are my top three reasons why you should get in those pictures with your kids!
1. Your kids will want to see you in pictures with them! They won’t care about all the things you worried about that was stopping you from getting in pictures.
2. You are beautiful! Pamper yourself and get dressed up. You deserve it!
3. Your kids change so fast! Don’t wait until they’re grown up….
So what are you waiting for?! Mamas, I’ve created a special session just for you for Mother’s Day. Check out the details here.

What to wear at your next family photo session
Okay, so you booked your family photos with Katie Bingen Photography. Now the question is….what to wear!?
Each and every client of mine has exclusive access to a styling service. Take the headache out of planning outfits for the whole family. Upon booking, you will receive an email from me outlining how to prepare for your upcoming session which includes how to use this amazing service!
Here are a few tips for planning your family’s outfits:
Coordinate
Remember the days of wearing jeans and white t-shirts….and I mean everyone?! Let’s not do that. Coordinating outfits with patterns and solid colors will create a cohesive look. Pull colors from the patterned outfit.
Colors
Neutral and muted tones. (Think white, gray, navy, mustard, olive green, maroon, etc.) These tones will photograph beautifully. Stay away from bright, neon colors.
Pick mom’s outfit first!
Here’s a little tip….pick out YOUR outfit first! Something you feel comfortable in, feel good in. You will love your photos that much more if you’re wearing something you feel confident in!
Have fun with it! If you ever have any questions or want my opinion, I am here and happy to help.

How to prepare for your Newborn Session
CONGRATULATIONS!
You’ve booked your Newborn Session with Katie Bingen Photography.
…NOW WHAT?
What to Wear
I recommend sticking to light neutral, muted colors. For baby, bring along a favorite outfit, headband(s), swaddle(s) and a white onesie. A style guide and Pinterest idea board will be sent over upon booking. Don’t overthink it too much! First and foremost, be comfortable in the clothes you pick for yourself. You want to feel your best in the photos!
Milk, Diapers, Repeat
Newborn Sessions are 1-2 hours. Why are my sessions this long? Babies rule the session. That’s right, if your baby is hungry, needs a diaper change or needs to be snuggled to calm down, don’t worry! These sessions are meant to be relaxed. There is no rush.
I have a toddler…
Great! The whole family (mom, dad and siblings….even pets!) are included in all of my sessions! Worried how they will behave? I have kids ranging from 2-7. Nothing phases me, I’ve seen it all! Bring along a favorite toy of snack for your toddler. We will start out with family and sibling shots to get their portion of the session done right away. By the end of the session, most toddler’s will want their own individual picture on each chair in the studio (or your living room). ;)
All in all, relax. I’ve done countless numbers of newborn sessions. I have young kids of my own. I love working with babies and your older kiddos! Can’t wait to meet you!
